Quilting Material

The quilting material forms the basis for your quilting project and so it is important to choose the right one. One of the many things to consider about choosing the material is the color. There are hundreds of colors available and to start with you can go for your favorite color and choose lighter or darker shades for fabrics that can make a traditional monochromic quilt. On the other hand, if you love multi-colored quilt and not very sure about the best combination of colors, then you can look for fabric that has different colors and use those colors as a guide to choose quilting material.

The next important thing to consider is the type of quilting material. Many types of material from cotton to flannel are available to choose from. However, the most common quilting material is 100% cotton. The reason being cotton is durable, easy to quilt, soft and its color does not bleed often. Cotton keep their shape and color compared to polyester or blend fabrics and hence it is a perfect quilting material for quilted items that may last long. Flannel is another popular choice that is warm and soft and suitable for baby quilts.

If you want to go for a unique quilting material, you can choose a designer fabric that incorporates your particular style. With numerous fabric designers available, you are sure to find one to suit your taste. An ideal way to make fun quilt is to go for a novelty or themed quilting materials. These quilts make great conversation pieces of quilts. One can find a wide variety of novelty themes and styles such as animals, food and beverages, sports, beach, exclusive themes for girls etc. The choice of themed quilts depends on one’s preference and it is important to make sure that the theme suits the purpose of the quilt. For example, a person who enjoys sports is the best person to appreciate sports-themed quilts.

The most important tip to consider perhaps is to go for what you like. It is always better to experiment without fear and also a little bit of creativity can help you have fun making your quilting project really enjoyable. Preparing a quilt material is quite easy. It is important to make sure that all the collection of fabrics is clean.

To wash the quilting material, it should be soaked first in cold water and a delicate soap should be used for soft fabrics. Then the material should be rinsed and dried using a spin dryer or just hung in open air. Once dried, the corners should be stretched just enough to straighten the quilting material a bit and then ironed so that the material is wrinkle-free before starting to quilt.
